Information we collect

Account information

When you create an Altipoop account, we collect information such as your display name, email address, account ID, optional home region, and privacy setting. Your password is stored only as a secure password hash and is not stored in readable form.

Precise location

Altipoop may collect precise GPS coordinates when you use features that depend on location, including field observations and other location-aware tools. Location collection is tied to features you choose to use.

Photos

If you choose to attach or capture photos for field observations, Altipoop may upload and store those photos so they can appear in your journal or be processed for identification features.

Bird-call and other sound recordings

If you use Bird Call ID or save a bird observation, Altipoop may process and store the sound recording associated with that observation.

User-generated content

Altipoop may collect notes, observation details, ratings, trail descriptions, and other text or information you choose to save in your field journal.

How we use information

• To create, authenticate, and manage your Altipoop account.
• To save and display your trips and field-journal entries.
• To provide location-aware hiking and observation features.
• To upload and display photos or bird recordings you choose to save.
• To identify nature observations and bird calls when you request those features.
• To maintain, secure, and operate the Altipoop service.

Service providers

Altipoop uses service providers to operate the app and website. These providers may process information on Altipoop's behalf only as needed to provide their services.

• Render — backend application hosting and database infrastructure.
• Cloudinary — storage and delivery of uploaded photos and bird audio.
• OpenAI — may process photos submitted to the nature-identification feature when you request an identification.
• Mapping, device, and platform services may process information needed to provide maps, GPS, and operating-system functionality.

Public field reports

Some Altipoop features may allow you to intentionally share selected observations publicly. Public sharing is opt-in. When an eligible location-based report is published, Altipoop may reduce the precision of the displayed location rather than showing the exact stored coordinates.

Data retention

Server-stored account information and saved field-journal data are generally kept while your Altipoop account remains active, unless you delete an individual item or request account deletion. Temporary files created during processing, such as Bird Call ID analysis files, are intended to be removed after processing.

Some limited records may be retained when required by law, to protect the security and integrity of the service, or to resolve legitimate disputes. When no such requirement applies, account deletion is intended to remove the account and associated server-stored records.

Account and data deletion

Altipoop provides in-app account deletion. In the app, open Profile → Delete Account, enter your current password, and confirm permanent deletion.

Account deletion removes the Altipoop account record and associated server-stored trips, field observations, uploaded observation photos, and saved bird audio that are linked to the account.

Security

Altipoop uses HTTPS for data transmitted between the app and its backend services. Passwords are stored as password hashes rather than readable passwords. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but Altipoop uses reasonable measures designed to protect account and field-journal data.

Children's privacy

Altipoop is not designed specifically for young children. If we learn that personal information was collected in a way that violates applicable children's privacy requirements, we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Altipoop changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material revisions are made.
